The upcoming next-generation gaming consoles are heavily competing to win over gamers with innovative features and design. Microsoft have already provided info about specifications and release dates about their highly anticipated XBOX Series X. However, below you can find out what we know about the PS5 controller.
See the list of features to expect in the new controller and a breakdown of these below:
Share and Options Button modifications
Built-in Battery with USB-C Charging
New Lightbar Design
Strong Battery Life
You might be asking, what is haptic feedback? Well, it is a new and improved design focused on the vibrations of the controller. The new design is very specific and tuned to what is happening in-game. For example, it will vibrate at different paces, strengths and tones in a reactive way to what is happening in-game. Undoubtedly, These new motors are a significant improvement from the DualShock 4. As a result, will give users a higher sense of feedback to what is happening in-game.
An example that Sony gave us for haptic feedback is the pullback of a bow. The vibrations in the new controller will mimic the feeling and vibrations of tension and resistance when pulling back a real bow. Awesome!
In a racing game, the different road surfaces you are driving on will give you different haptic feedback to represent this. If you are driving through mud, you will feel the gritty and slipping vibrations as you would in real life. Game-Changing.
L2 & R2 Are now Adaptive Triggers which is a new feature that Sony is bringing to the table. These triggers will add a level of resistance and realism to the controller and can adapt to certain aspects of the game. This feature can give you next-level immersion by actually jamming the trigger in correlation to your gun jamming in-game.
Additionally, the distance to press the trigger in has decreased, which will lead to quicker response time when using them. The L1+L2 and R1+R2 triggers have been modified for no gap between them, meaning that gamers can quickly and seamlessly press both at the same time.
Sony has implemented a near field array microphone. This will not meet the quality of a plug-in headset. However, will add a whole new level of ease of use and communication. Additionally, it includes technology that will eliminate background noise and focus on outputting just your voice.
Share and Option Button
Sony has modified the traditional option button to include a range of new features. The Share button has been replaced with the Create button. This will now allow you to share your clips and upload them to social networks of your choosing. The inbuilt microphone will allow users to commentate over gameplay before sharing clips. Sony has stated that they are going to go more in-depth as to what these features will include soon.
Overall Design and Grip
The overall design of the controller has been modified to increase ergonimics and immerse a user for the future of gaming.
A re-designed grip on the bottom half of the controller is made of a rougher plastic in order to increase grip and reduce slipping.
The shape and stick layout have been adjusted to give a user the very best control over buttons.
The middle PlayStation button in the middle is now a modern cutout of the classic PS5 logo which is a nice touch.
The lightbar has been modified to look sleek and modern. Instead of it being at the back of the controller, it is now 2 lines on either side of the touchpad.
